Although some in Decorah believe this building was designed by Charles Altfillish or his firm, this is NOT the case. A July 30, 1962 Decorah Public Opinion article said the Decorah postmaster reported “the regional office of the postal department has asked Texas Midwest Contracting Co. of Dallas for the plans and specifications for the new building,” after progress on the building slowed down. Then, two months later, a page one Sept. 10, 1962 D.P.O. article states the building will be completed in March, 1963, as announced by “Bob Conrad, engineer with Mid West Texas Contracting Company of Dallas, architects and engineers in charge of general contracting on the project.” The building was completed in 1963. Design was of contemporary style, to complement the general architectural pattern of the municipal area.
